I have researched my maternal Herz ancestors and associated family lines in Baden, Germany back to 1432, my paternal Brown and George ancestors in Kentucky, Georgia and South Carolina back to 1774, and my sons paternal ancestors back to 1614 in the flemish town of Opwijk in the dutch-speaking province of Flemish-Brabant, Belgium.
I am a long-standing member of the German genealogical society VFWKWB (since 1985), and the German war graves commission. I am also a member of the West German genealogical society in Cologne which covers the area of the former Rhine Province (Rhenish Province).
My maternal ancestors are mostly from Baden, some from Württemberg and the département Bas-Rhin in the Alsace region in France, and my paternal ancestors are from Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. According to family lore my Brown ancestors were from Scotland, immigrating to America in the 18th century. Although many Scottish-Americans immigrated to the states where my ancestors lived I have yet to find definite proof that my Browns indeed immigrated from Scotland.
